7 Natural Ways to Prevent Acne

by Ingela

Have you ever heard of the saying “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”?  Well, I think the same thing applies when it comes to acne.  I’d rather prevent acne than cure it.  And most of all, I think it’s best to use natural ways to prevent acne.

Pimples and zits all over your face can be embarrassing.  Whether you’re a teenager or an adult, acne is something you want to get rid of as quickly as possible.

There are many prescription and over-the-counter medications available to treat acne and keep it from coming back.  However, many of these treatments contain harsh ingredients and are often expensive.  Like me, you may want to prevent acne the natural way.

7 Ways to Prevent Acne

Here are a few simple but effective ways to prevent acne.  They are easy to do and most of them cost next to nothing.

1. Keep your hair off your face. Dirt and oil from your hair can get into your skin pores and cause an acne outbreak.  It’s also a good idea to keep your hands off your face.

2. Do not pick or pop your pimples and blackheads.  Yes, I know it’s hard to resist but believe me it will only spread bacteria and make your acne worse.

3. Keep your skin clean. Avoid wearing makeup whenever possible and let your skin breathe. There are natural makeups available, of course, but completely natural is always better for you and your skin.

4. Eat foods rich in zinc, beta carotene and chromium. These nutrients help control acne and keep your skin smooth and clear.  Shellfish, pine nuts and wheat are rich in zinc.  Mushrooms and kidney beans provide chromium while peppers, tomatoes and carrots are rich in beta carotene.

5. Drink lots of water. You need at least 10 glasses of water every day to help flush out toxins from your body.

6. Apply mashed papaya fruit on your face for 10 to 12 minutes and then rinse it off. This is a very effective natural way to prevent acne.  Papaya removes dead skin and moisturizes the skin.  You can also eat the fruit to help cleanse your body of toxins.

7. Avoid consuming oily foods. Limit your intake of refined carbohydrates and sugar.  These foods can stimulate the production of excess oil and can cause pimples, whiteheads and blackheads to appear.

Preventing acne doesn’t have to be complicated.  Eat nutritious, high fiber foods and drink plenty of water. Exercise regularly and avoid stress in your life.  As you can see, a healthy lifestyle is the best natural way to prevent acne.

And if all else fails, there’s always great home remedies for curing acne available at your fingertips.
