14 Amazing Natural Home Remedies for Curing Acne, Zits & Pimples
Home remedies for curing acne, zits, and pimples are everywhere. Everyone wants to get rid of their acne and heal their skin.
I hear ya.
But whatever you do, don’t pick your skin, and don’t exfoliate. It may help your skin in the short-term, but it can damage your skin in the long-term, which we don’t want.
There are also other solutions available, such as antibiotics and harsh over the counter treatments, which I don’t recommend at all.
With that said, here are the natural home remedies for curing acne that actually work, without killing you or your skin:
1. Apple Cider Vinegar. Apple cider vinegar seems to be among the most popular and most effective home remedies for curing acne, zits, and pimples. Go to your local health food store, buy some unfiltered apple cider vinegar, use a q-tip, and apply it on your zits. I also recommend that you take 2-3 tablespoons of it internally. Throw it in a glass of water, or juice, and get it down.
2. Hydrogen Peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is one of the home remedies for curing acne that you have to be careful with. If you buy high-grade 35%+ peroxide, make sure you dilute it to about 3% before you apply it. You can use a cotton ball, or a q-tip, and hold it to your zits for a while. On the bigger ones, you can hold the peroxide there for a few minutes. It may sting, so be prepared.
3. Vitamin B5. I wrote about this in my article vitamins for acne. Some people have seen huge results by taking high doses of pantothenic acid, or vitamin B5. You can buy it in almost any health store. It’s very cheap. Start by taking 10,000 milligrams per day, and increase your dosage little by little until you see results.
4. Diet. Your diet plays a huge role in how your skin looks. The best way to figure out what foods affect your acne is to eliminate dairy, legumes, grains, sugar, and pretty much everything else except meat, fish, fruits, vegetables, and berries. Then see if your skin gets better. If you want more information on how to cure your acne holistically, I really like the Acne No More guide.
5. Garlic. Garlic is a natural anti-bacterial, but be careful, because if you use fresh garlic on your face, it can burn and cause redness, so I recommend you mix it with a little warm water, or raw honey and see how your skin reacts. Many have also seen results by taking a raw garlic clove and eating it.
6. Coconut Oil. Coconut oil is one of the more successful home remedies for curing acne. What you do is you get extra-virgin coconut oil and apply on your pimples and zits. You can even take it internally and see how it feels. It is a very healthy fat and does wonders for a lot of ailments.
7. Tea Tree Oil. You can usually get tea tree oil in your local health store. It’s very popular, but make sure you dilute it first, because it is quite strong. You can dilute it in something like jojoba oil and apply it to your zits and pimples. Alternatively, you can take a q-tip and carefully hold it to your problem areas.
8. Chemicals. I know this isn’t one of the home remedies for curing acne, but sometimes what you avoid can make a huge difference. Most of the hygiene and skin care products that we use today are filled with chemicals and unnatural ingredients, which can sometimes block your pores and cause acne. You can read more about it on my article about the best anti wrinkle cream.
9. Oatmeal. Believe it or not, but one of the home remedies for curing acne, zits, and pimples is old fashioned oatmeal. Cook a serving, add some honey (preferably raw, unheated), allow it to cool, and apply to your face. Remove after 10-20 minutes, rinse with lukewarm water, and you’re good to go. It absorbs toxins and helps your skin heal.
10. Nettle. Stinging nettle has anti-inflammatory properties. Try to find it fresh, remove leaves and stems, throw them in a pot, pour boiling water over the nettles, and steep for 5-10 minutes. It has many health benefits, so it’s great to drink even if you don’t have skin problems.
11. Lemon Juice. Squeeze lemon juice, take a cotton ball, and dab it on your pimples and zits. You can also use rose water, which comes from rose petals, and makes the lemon juice less acidic, which is easier on your skin.
12. Mint. Used fresh peppermint that has been crushed, apply to the affected area, leave for 5-15 minutes, and rinse with cold water. Peppermint works because it is naturally anti-inflammatory. If you can, get peppermint instead of spearmint, because it contains menthol, and works better.
13. Omega-3. Oil from fatty fish contain omega-3 fats, which are essential fatty acids that your body, brain, and skin needs to survive. They are also powerful anti-inflammatory agents, so not only are they good for your health, but they can also alleviate your acne. You can get more of them from fatty fish, such as salmon, or use a natural fish oil supplement.
14. Natural Creams. Creams for acne can be fantastic and fast, but you have to find the right one. It should be free from chemicals and only contain the best natural ingredients. The best I’ve found is a product line from ZenMed.
Finding the best home remedies for curing acne is not easy. That is exactly why I decided to compile the best of the best above.
Remember, some of these home remedies may work better than others. We are all unique, so stay patient, and keep using one remedy for at least 3-4 weeks.
If it doesn’t work, you can always return to this list and pick something else. You can conquer your acne, if you keep at it!
