Do Stretch Marks Go Away?

by Ingela

Out of all the things which can make you feel self conscious, stretch marks can often be the worst.

They usually come about after a quick weight gain, weight loss, or after pregnancy.  Of course this leaves many people wondering “do stretch marks go away?” Or are we condemned for life.

Most stretch marks will never completely go away without a little bit of extra help, however, it is possible to get rid of them.

Within around six to twelve months you will find that most stretch marks will fade to a very similar color to your own skin, but they may appear just a little bit lighter.

While this applies to many stretch marks that you find on your body, sometimes stretch marks will remain blatantly visible, no matter how long you wait.

So, do stretch marks go away? The answer is: often they do.

The best thing for reducing stretch marks effectively is boosting your overall skin health and elasticity. Nourish it with healthy whole foods, drink lots of water, and exercise and stretch regularly.

Fortunately you can often help reduce the severity of stretch marks by using creams such as Cocoa Butter, Aloe Vera, and Vitamin E.  Rubbing these in twice daily can help to tone up your skin and help stretch marks go away. Some people even find that rubbing their skin with a special skin brush can help stretch marks go away.

Cocoa butter is a great starting point for those who want to know if stretch marks go away; it helps tone your skin, as well as revitalize it with a wide range of nutrients.

Many people use cocoa butter even without stretch marks, it’s that awesome!

You may wonder: do stretch marks go away for everyone with these methods?

The answer is unfortunately not. You can often get prescription creams such as Retin-A and glycolic acid from your doctor.  These treatments can be effective; however they come with a hefty price and the safety of using them is questionable.

I personally prefer natural options. There are a lot of them out there, so I suggest you do your research, but be careful, because the majority of skin care products (even natural ones) contain harmful ingredients. I personally use the products from Xtend-Life and they have worked great for my skin.

If you can’t make your marks go away completely then you might want to learn how to hide your stretch marks. A common way to do this is with self tanning lotion or make up concealer.

A final resort is either laser treatment, or surgery.  These can be effective, however they can be dangerous, expensive, and do not stop new marks from forming.

To be honest though if you are worried about whether your stretch marks will go away, you might want to keep in mind that while stretch marks rarely go completely away on their own, they will often fade into insignificance fairly rapidly.

Application of some simple creams twice daily can help to speed up that process and prevent new ones from appearing, and you can always try some home remedies for stretch marks if nothing else works!
