Discover the Hidden Connection Between Cocoa Butter and Stretch Marks

by Ingela

There’s been a lot of debate going on about cocoa butter and stretch marks.  Some people say that cocoa butter can help get rid of stretch marks while others say it doesn’t have any effect on scars at all.

I think it’s time to take an objective view of what we know about cocoa butter.

What is Cocoa Butter?

Cocoa butter is a naturally occurring substance extracted from cocoa beans or cacao seeds.  Yes, the same cocoa bean that gives us heavenly tasting chocolate.

Cocoa butter has long been used as a traditional moisturizer in regions where cacao trees are grown, such as South America and the Caribbean.  It contains fatty acids which improve the skin’s elasticity and ability to hold moisture.

It also contains polyphenols that ease skin problems such as dermatitis or rashes.  Most people find its chocolate smell very appealing.

Cocoa Butter and Stretch Marks: Does Cocoa Butter Really Help?

This is what everybody wants to know; whether or not cocoa butter gets rid of stretch marks. The answer is no.

But does it help to prevent and possibly reduce stretch marks?  The answer is yes.

The truth is that there is no known cure to get rid of stretch marks completely.  The best you can hope for is for the scars to fade and become less noticeable.

Because of its rich moisturizing properties, cocoa butter can make a difference in the appearance of stretch marks but probably not enough to make them disappear completely.

Should You Write Off Cocoa Butter and Stretch Marks?

No, you shouldn’t.  In fact, it is one of the most highly recommended products to help fade stretch marks. But it is the most effective when mixed with other ingredients rich in antioxidants, like natural vitamin E.

Cocoa butter is an amazing moisturizing agent, capable of penetrating deep into the skin.  Cocoa butter lubricates the skin and keeps it elastic. It is also rich in antioxidants that fight the damaging effects of free radicals on skin, including wrinkles, stretch marks and signs of premature aging.

Cocoa butter is an inexpensive option for reducing stretch marks.  Best of all, it is a completely natural product.  It is safe even when used for extended periods of time.

Best Way to Use Cocoa Butter

Take some cocoa butter and massage it over the stretch marks for 5 to 10 minutes.  This allows the product to penetrate the skin for faster healing of the scars.  You may want to apply the cocoa butter along with other natural healing ingredients such as olive oil, almond oil, or active manuka honey.

To get the best results, apply cocoa butter several times a day.  You can also use it to prevent stretch marks.  Apply cocoa butter on your abdomen, breasts and thighs during the early stages of pregnancy.  This will help prevent future stretch marks from appearing.

Be sure to use only cocoa butter with no harmful additives in it, and preferably with some natural vitamin E added. This natural product may not cure stretch marks but it’s a useful weapon against them.
